Rangi and Papa Stories

We loved the stories of Matariki. We wrote about them. Mrs Pareanga has been teaching T13 how to use comic strip to publish their stories. Take a look at their hard work!

Beebots moving - Oliver Mariel and Sienna

Look we got the beebots to move a chair! It took 5 beebots to do it.

We loved playing with the gloop.
It's like a solid mixed with a liquid. It is solid at first then it turns into a liquid when you touch it. It is like kinetic sand.

This week we have been learning how to give compliments. We have been practising in our Tgroups in circle time.

A West African Performance

On Monday we went to the hall to see some visitors. Their names were Jennifer, Robert and Bismark. Their music was so good my eyes almost popped out.

This morning we had some performers at school. They sang. Their song was beautiful it made my heart melt.

The visitors from Ghana made a lot of noise and it made my heart go fast. It freaked me out but no-one knew I was freaked out.

The African people did the drums. It was loud but fun. I smiled at the African people. I said thank you.

It was a little bit difficult playing the drum because the drum was hard. It was tiring because I had to move my hands really fast. I felt happy because I really wanted to play the drums. I liked the singing and dancing to.

Matariki

We have had a fun week this week celebrating Matariki.

With the sticks Mrs Townsend brought in, lots of people decided to make fishing rods, swords and kites.

We made yummy soup and did lots of art activities with stars.

Proud to be Halswell School

Ti Kouka was very proud to be part of the video taken for the Prime Minister's Education Excellence Awards. Halswell School was one of the finalists for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. We didn't win but we did get a special commendation award for our transition into a modern learning environment.

Rangi and Papa Mural

Over the last 2 weeks Ti Kouka has been working on a mural to celebrate Matariki. It is of Ranginui and Papatuanuku and how the Matariki stars where created.

It has taken alot of perseverance and persistence to complete it. But in the end it looks amazing!!
